Family connections for John (Deaves) are: DEAVES John (Deaves), son of Vincent (Deaves) & Sarah (Webb), was born about 1788 at Assington Suffolk. He married firstly Susan (Raynor) in Nayland Suffolk. He was tried with 3others for stealing beef on ship DOLPHIN from ships master Simon (Allen) at Suffolk Sessions, sentenced to 7years, held at Suffolk borough gaol &, from 19 12 1812, on hulk at Langdon Harbour Portsmouth & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 10 1814 after a voyage of 7.5months on SOMERSETSHIRE; where he remained for 7weeks in Quarantine camp due to a Typhus epidemic on board the ship. He had a second relationship with his housekeeper Harriet (Pugh/Parker her second relationship). He was Free by Servitude by 1821. He was recorded in 1828 as a sawyer & landlord of Harriet (Parker) & her children at Sussex St Sydney. He died in 1850 age62 in Kincumber Gosford. [Some details taken from this Website] Harriet (Pugh) was born on 1 10 1797 & baptised on 18 2 1799 age16m at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She apparantly married firstly with permission Stephen (Parker) emancipist on 30 8 1813 at St Matthews CofE Windsor & produced 3children. She became housekeeper to John (Deaves). She was recorded in 1828 with her children as lodger of John (Deaves) at Sussex St Sydney. She died in 1883 age about87 mother of 10children. John (Deaves) & Harriet (Pugh) & produced 7children: boys? 1.John William (Deaves) was born on 28 1 1821 & baptised on 5 5 1822 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was recorded in 1828 with John (Deaves) at Sussex St Sydney. 2.William John (Deaves) was born on 6 4 1824 & baptised on 20 6 1824 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was recorded in 1828 with his father at Sussex St Sydney. He died on 9 7 1889 age65. 3.James Charles (Deaves/Dears) was born on 5 8 1827 & baptised on 6 1 1828 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was recorded in 1828 with his father at Sussex St Sydney. He died in July 1863 age35. 4.-6.??? (Deaves) 7.??? (Deaves) was born in 1845. Born 1787, Assington, Suffolk, England, Baptised, 28th Jan, 1787, Father Vincent Deaves, Mother Sarah Webb. Married in Nayland Suffolk to Susan Raynor. Convicted 23 Sep. 1812 for stealing a quantity of beef from the ship Dolphin and reported in the Ipswich Journal on Sat. 26th Sept. On 19 Dec. 1812 was transferred from Suffolk borough goal to a hulk in Langdon Harbour, Portsmouth. Sailed on the Summersetshire from suffolk on 10th May 1814. Arrived Port Jackson on 27th July 1814. Arriving at Port Jackson on Goat Island he landed on the north shore and put in a Quarantine camp due to a Typhus epidemic on board the ship, he had to stay in quarantine for 7 weeks. in 1821 his letter for freedom was lost at the Colonial Secretary's office. And had to apply for another certificate of freedom he became a free man in 1821 and married Harriet Pugh, no mention of his wife in England, and no divorce record found. Occupation at that time a Sawyer. He died in 1850 in Kincumber, Gosford, NSW.

[Ref P0180] Parker, Harriet, 30, born in the colony, Protestant, lodger with John Deaves, Sydney. [Ref P0181] Parker, Elizabeth, 14, born in the colony. [Ref P0182] Parker, David, 12, born in the colony. [Ref P0183] Parker, Sophia, 10, born in the colony. [Ref P0184] Parker, John, 7, born in the colony. [Ref P0185] Parker, William, 5, born in the colony. [Ref P0186] Parker, James, 1, born in the colony. ## Note. The First Three children (viz Elizabeth, David and Sophia) are clearly the children of Stephen Parker and Harriet. It is not clear who was John's father, his age suggests Parker but most sources say Deaves. The other two, William and James are clearly the children of John Deaves and Harriet.
Around 1822, John formed a relationship with Harriet Parker, the widow of Stephen Parker (Convict, Coromandel, 1803). Stephen had been drowned in August 1822 and she had three young children to support. She is listed as the housekeeper to John Deaves. They had seven children, born between 1822 and 1845.
Joseph Gladding, Jonathan Garrard, John Deaves, and James Hayward, were indicted for breaking open the hatchway of the ship Dolphin, and stealing from thence a quantity of beef, the property of Simon Allen, master of the said vessel; Gladding, Garrard, and Deaves were found guilty and sentenced to 7 years transportation; Hayward was acquitted.
