The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... Family connections for John (Hindley) are: HINDLEY John (Hindley) was born about 1770. He was tried at Lancaster Assizes Lancashire in November 1800, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 20 11 1800 after a voyage of 8months on ROYAL ADMIRAL. He was an emancipist when he married firstly Elizabeth (Rich/Ritch) on 4 1 1808 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He died about 1811 age40 & was buried, as John (Henley), on 3 1 1811 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Rich/Ritch) was born about 1788. She was apparantly resident in Devon when arraigned w/1other for housebreaking & stealing articles of Samuel (Tiler) of Backwell Somerset at Somerset Assizes, sent to Devon Assizes for trial at Exeter Castle in 1805, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 12 7 1806 after a voyage of 6months on ALEXANDER. She was an emancipist when she married secondly Joseph (Inch his second marriage) dealeron 8 1 1814 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 1child. She produced 1known child in her lifetime.
