Convict Notes
Thank you for this very interesting note. Sadly I still cannot make any connection between the two John Kempsters but I will keep on trying. Many thanks. Sue Hearne.
John Kempster was 24 years old on arrival in VDL. He was single, protestant, could read only, 5'4 1/2" tall, fresh complexion, light hazel eyes, Native Place Ellesmire?? (hard to read) in Shropshire. Period of Probation: 15 months. Station of Gang: Prisoner's Barracks. 31/12/1840: Misconduct - cell on bread and water 14 days. 6/9/1845: TOL 26/6/1846: Drunk - fines 5/- 23/11/1847: COF 11/6/1851: Departed Launceston to Melbourne, Free by servidude, Asia 5.

He is my ancestor, born in Tipperary, and I wonder if this John Kempster could be his father or a relative. My ancestor married Mary Ann Corbett in 1848 in Welshpool. Mary Ann's parents were Jane Corbett - nee Owens and John Corbett.
