John Mcpaul was transported on the Waterloo, departing 18th Dec 1830 and arriving 30th Apr 1831 with 200 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

John McPaul was 30 years old when transported. He was a Widower with 1 child. 12/1/1839: COF. John returned to Ireland and in 1840 married Mary Graham and had at least 9 children. By 1865 Mary had died and so had 8 of the children. By this time 3 of John's brothers had come to Australia as immigrants, George, with wife and 3 children in 1844 per "Herald". Robert with wife in 1848 per "Hyderabad". James with wife and 2 children in 1848 per "Royal Saxon". So in 1865 John arrived back in Australia with his only remaining child, Robert, aged 15 years. Their passage was paid for by George McPaul. 1879: After 14 years back in the Colony, John committed suicide at Maroo, Shoalhaven. John's parents were James McPaul and Rebecca Campbell.
