Absconded. 1. Moore John, Speke, 21, Labourer and Shoemaker, Edinburgh, 4 feet 11, hazle eyes, brown hair, ruddy comp, from No. 40 Road Gang. 3d time of running. Sydney Gazette, 3 March 1831.

Prisoner in Edinburgh, Tried Edinburgh, 18 Feb 1822, Transportation- 14 years. To New South Wales, per Speke, 5 August 1826. --------------------------------------- Edinburgh. Court of Justiciary. On Monday, Alexander M'Kay, James Stewart, alias Shields or Shiels, William Muir, alias Moor or More, and John Muir, alias More, were put to the bar, and charged with shopbreaking in the Kirkgate of  Leith. The panel William Muir pleaded Guilty, and the three others Not Guilty. The public prosecutor deferred the diet against John Muir, but remanded M’Kay and Stewart back to prison for future examination. The jury found William Muir Guilty, in terms of his own confession; and the penalty having been restricted by the counsel for the Crown to an arbitrary punishment, the Court sentenced him to be transported for life. John Muir, brother to the preceding convict, was arraigned upon a new charge of robbing the till of a merchant's shop in Kirkaldy, of a sum of gold coin, and of being habit and repute  a thief. The pannel pleaded Not Guilty. A number of witnesses were called to prove the robbery, whose evidence appearing conclusive, the prisoner's counsel contented himself with expressing  a hope, that on account of the tender age of his client, who was only ten years old, the jury would accompany their verdict with a recommendation to the lenity of the Court. The jury consulted  together for a few minutes, and returned a verdict of Guilty, but without any recommendation. After an impressive admonition from the Lord Justice Clerk, the youthful. delinquent was sentenced to transportation for 14 years, Aberdeen Press and Journal, 27 Feb 1822. --------------------- Hulk Records.
