Per Mandarin – desertion https://libraries.tas.gov.au/Digital/CON39-1-2/CON39-1-2P112 Tried Nova Scotia Court Martial – 2 Aug 1839 – life Embarked 20 Feb 1840 Arrived 30 June 1840 Protestant, can read and write Transported for desertion; goal report – none; hulk report – good; single Stated this offence: ‘desertion – absent 14 hours; once for drunkenness: 30 days hard labour; 150 lashes for being drunk on duty’ once for making away with a pair of boots – 100 lashes; 42 days for assaulting a serjeant.
