1844, 1 January: He was granted a Ticket of Leave (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON32-1-2$init=CON32-1-2p5). 1848, 30 June: John Reid was granted a Free Certificate (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-4$init=CON34-1-4P587). 1850, 2 January: An entry on his Conduct Record says "in jail". There are no further details (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-37$init=CON31-1-37p149).
1836, 12 March: For absconding, he received an extension of 12 months on his original sentence. 1836, 12 May: For absconding, he received an extension of 2 years on his original sentence. 1838, 5 February: For absconding, he received an extension of 2 years on his original sentence. 1840: John Reid received two months' hard labour, to be served at the completion of his original sentence, for threatening to "cut off" the head of his "master". He was also "recommended to be sent to the other side of the island" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-37$init=CON31-1-37p149).
1833, 2 August: John Reid, listed as 21, Stewart Smillie, 18, and George Robertson, 17, were received aboard the Retribution hulk at Woolwich. John Reid and Stewart Smillie were sent from there for transportation aboard the Southworth on 16 September (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1834: On arrival in VDL, John Reid was single, a labourer and 23 years old (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-20$init=CON18-1-20p117). He said he had a previous conviction for assault and had been transported for theft. The surgeon's report of his conduct during the voyage said he was "good and industrious" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-37$init=CON31-1-37p149).
