Convict Notes
19/10/1833 Staffordshire Advertiser Staffordshire, England: Thomas Tinsley and John Richards, two Birmingham lads, were found guilty, on the clearest evidence, of robbing Mr. Daniel's till, at Westbromwich. One of them went into the shop in the middle of the day, no person being in at the moment, snatched three sovereigns out of the drawer and ran off with his companion. They were pursued and brought back. At first no money was found, but the speech of one of them being a little impeded by something in his mouth, it was forcibly opened, and the empediment was then disovered, the three sovereigns were under his tongue. Tinsley had been in gaol before. To be transported for seven years. Thomas Tinsley arrived per 'Roslin Castle 1834. John Richards was 16 years old on arrival in NSW - he was literate, Protestant, single. Native Place: Birmingham. John was 5'1½" tall, dark ruddy complexion, black hair, chestnut eyes, cast inward in left eye, eyebrows partially meeting, scar right side of under lip, scar right side of nose, small hairy mole back of left jaw, I W R on upper, blue dot back of lower left arm, ring little finger of left hand, scar on palm of same, I. R on upper right arm and blue dot inside right wrist, scar back of right thumb, circular scar back of right foot. 14/12/1842: COF
