John Shemeld and John Woollew stole thirty pairs of scissors, valued at fifteen shillings, from Joseph Cousins.




John Shemeld was listed as 25 years old on arrival. Transported for 'Stealing Hardware'. Native Place: Yorkshire. John was illiterate, protestant, single, 5'5¾" tall, dark ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, blue scar in centre of fourhead, scar on top of head left side, other scars. Assigned to A. McLeay Esq., Sydney. 1834: TOL Goulburn 7/2/1837: COF 1853: Married Emma ??? (Surname not given on SA BDM) in Adelaide, SA. Children: 1844: Henry 1853: Anna Maria 1856: William 1858: George and 2 others 1858: John Shemeld died at Strathalbyn, SA. 16/11/1858 The South Australian Advertiser: STRATHALBYN. An application from the Clerk of the District Council of Strathalbyn for relief to the widow and family of John Shemeld, who had accidentally been drowned in Rodwell's Creek. Two rations for a fortnight granted until further information is obtained.
