John Skinner was transported on the Ann Or Anne, departing 31st Jul 1809 and arriving 27th Feb 1810 with 200 passengers.
1800/1810 Journey Ship Anne, Captain James Stewart. Left Cork 26 June 1800 with 147 men and 24 women. There was a mutiny on board on the 29th July 1800, but the ship’s company overcame the insurgents. The ringleader, Marcus Sheehy, confessed his guilt, and was immediately executed on board in the presence of all the convicts. Another convict, the leader on deck, Christopher Grogan, was sentenced to 250 lashes. The ship arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on 21 February 1801. Convict Notes
Yesterday afternoon about half-past three, Mr. Justice Heath finished trying the criminal causes, and proceeded to the awful and solemn duty passing sentence of DEATH on, the following malefactors, convicted of capital offences. John Skynner, for burglariously entering the dwelling-house of John Austen, of Marden, and stealing therein money and bank notes of of the value six pounds. Kentish Gazette, 31 March 1809. --------------------------------------------------- John Skynner, for robbing George Hogg, by taking from his person a five pound and four one pound Bank notes, one half-guinea, and two seven shilling pieces, his property.—Guilty.— DEATH. Reprieved. Kentish Weekly Post, 4 April 1809. -------------------------------------------------- Thursday se’ennight the following Convicts were removed from the County Gaol, Maidstone, under a strong guard to Portsmouth, and there put board the Hulks, and to remain till a Transport is prepared for their conveyance to New South Wales, viz. Edward Gallaher, James Ughlohhan, John Skynner, Edward Gaynor, John Mackey, David Brown alias George Busbridge, John Fullager, John Cole, George Smith, James Pettilt, James Gore, Jeremiah Bever, Samuel Dykes, John Norris, Dennis Collins, Thomas Litton, and William Baker.
