John SMITH was convicted at Middlesex, London on 6 June 1821 for having forged notes in his possession. Had been previously convicted for stealing a hog - 15 yr sentence of which 4yrs had been served at Bellerophon. This charge - 14yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lord Hungerford' arriving 26 Dec 1821. Aged 40 yrs; married man, 1 child - wife at Newgate Prison, under sentence. Native place: Brentwood. Brother is a gardener for Prince Saxe Coburg at Pall Mall. 1824: Stealing wheat. 25 lashes. 1830: Assigned to Capt. Clark. 6 June 1835: Free, by servitude.
