IN VDL: 7 March, 1851: On arrival in VDL, she was listed as convict #396, proper name "Matilda Matheson", a housemaid, 19 years old, single, Presbyterian, from Peebles, Scotland, and able to read and write. She said she had been transported for stealing clothes. She had two previous convictions for stealing clothes and one for being "on the town". Her character/behaviour report from jail was "bad" (https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON41-1-29$init=CON41-1-29p84).
