• JONES, Elizabeth (c1788-1821) Tried - 24 October 1812 Borough of Derby October Sessions Elizabeth, a servant, committed a felony in 1812 and was tried at the Derby October Quarter Sessions Court, receiving a 7 year sentence of transportation. At the same time, Elizabeth Gibson was tried at the same court. Both women remained in prison for over a year prior to their journey to New South Wales on the Broxbornebury in 1814. She was conveyed to the Female Factory at Parramatta after her arrival in Sydney. Elizabeth was listed as a housekeeper in 1818 and back at the Factory in 1819. Elizabeth became a free woman in October 1819 at the expiration of her 7 year term. She would have been issued a Certificate of Freedom to prove her legal status, however the NSW State Records (Archives) does not hold a copy of the original document. Elizabeth never married and at the time of her death at Parramatta on the 10th of December 1821, she was still recorded as a prisoner. Elizabeth Jones was aged only 33.
