n.b. there are two (2) James Jones on this sailing of the Fairlie 1852. This is identifier 1. James Jones (proper name James Pitts or Potts)was convicted at the CCC, London on 12 June 1848 for Burglary - stealing a watch in Oxford Street, London. 10yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the ship 'Fairlie' arriving 4 July 1852. Single man; can read & write; Gentleman's servant; aged 22yrs; Church of England; 5'4 1/4". Native place - Chelsea. Sister - Jane Brothers - Edward, George & Wilfred. (Stated his proper name was "Pitts") 1852: Prison Barracks - Constable. 30 Aug 1853: Ticket of Leave granted. 25 July 1854: Conditional Pardon granted.
