James Jones was convicted at Brecon Ass. 22 March 1842 for housebreaking and stealing clothes. Previously in prison and had attempted to escape. 15 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the ship 'Susan' arriving 24 July 1842. Aged 20yrs; single; miller; 5'5"; Protestant; can read. Native place - Monmouth Father - George Mother - Elizabeth 2 Brothers 3yrs Probation period in Colony. Impression Bay. Several notes of misconduct and minor offences. May have been convicted again in later years, but under the name "William Weston".
