John was sentenced 9 Aug 1800 at Salop (Shropshire) Assizes and was transported for Life arriving in NSW on the "Coromandel" on 14 Aug 1802. John obtained a Conditional Pardon on 31 Jan 1813. John gave his age as 30 years on his marrige register in 1815 - understating it by about 13 years; wife Ann understated hers by only about 2 years. The 1828 NSW Census registers at Parramatta, John Jones 56, butcher, wife Anne 35, and children born in the colony Martha 12, Mary Anne 10, Elizabeth 8, John 6, William Henry 4 and Edward 2. It noted that John had arrived in 1801(sic) on the "Coromandel" with a life sentence, and Anne Turner (alias Ann Ludham) had arrived on the "Wanstead" in 1814 for a 7 year sentence.
