Street Robbery.— Late on Thursday night last,, a young man of respectable station was found in Dale-street in state of of intoxication by two women, who took him into Lace street, where they were joined by two men, their companions; the party then knocked the young man down, bruised him very much on the face, and robbed him of his watch, ring, breast-pin, and 12/. in money. Information having been received by the police, William Wakefield, William Rainford, Ann Tierney, and Margaret Jones were arrested, on suspicion of having committed the robbery; they were examined Monday before Thomas Littledale, Esq. and remanded for further examination. Gore’s Liverpool General Advertiser, 25 Sep 1828.

Margaret Jones married Samuel Taylor who arrived on the Coromandel 2 in 1820. They were married in Narellan. After receiving his ticket of leave, they squatted on land near Yass. They owned over 3000 acres at the time of Samuel's death in 1871.

No records of her on the Sovereign (Ann Tierney her companion in crime is listed as aboard the Sovereign, also William Wakefield, the other companion in crime is not listed on any ship) - Margaret is listed under Samuel Taylor (Grenada 1821) with a permission to marry 25/4/1831 as arriving per 'Sovereign'. Married Samuel and had 8 children - Narellan area, NSW. Margaret died at Yass, NSW.

An article in the Liverpool Mercury dated 24 October 1828 reported that Margaret Jones, Ann Tierney and William Wakefield were sentenced to be transported for Seven Years for an extensive robbery of the property of Christopher Buckle at the Quarter Sessions on Monday. Jones, Margaret Age 20 Education rw (interesting given her marriage certificate) Religion Protestant Single No family Native Place Carnarvonshire Trade or Calling Dairy & Housemaid Offense Pick Pocket Where Tried Liverpool 20 October 1828 Sentence 7 years Former Conviction Margaret was 5 feet 2 inches tall had a ruddy complexion, brown hair and hazel eyes. She was assigned to Mrs Cox of Richmond.
