Old Bailey: MARY JONES, Theft > grand larceny, 3rd June 1824. Offence: Theft > grand larceny Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Transportation MARY JONES was indicted for stealing, on the 24th of April, two coats, value 15 s., the goods of John Dickinson. JOHN DICKINSON . I lodged with Mrs. Thompson in April last, and left my clothes in her care. ELIZABETH THOMPSON. I live in Lambeth-street. Dickenson lodged with me, and in April left his clothes in my room. On the 24th of April, about one o'clock, my neighbour gave me information - I ran out and saw the prisoner about twelve doors off, and saw him drop two of Dickinson's coats and run away; I picked them up - I had put them into a box on the first-floor room on that day; I had heard nobody up stairs - Parteridge pursued and took her. JOHN PARTERIDGE. I am a beadle. I heard an alarm - saw the prisoner running, and took her. (Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defence. I met a man who said if I went up to the first-floor, and brought two coats from his box; he would give me 1 s. GUILTY. Aged 16. Transported for Seven Years. Sept. 1826: Married Barnet Emanuel (Asia 1822) - they had 2 sons, David 1828 and Lewis 1831 - after marrying Barnet who was of Jewish faith, Mary changed her name to Julia/Ann/Eva. 1843: Barnet died at Bathurst. 21/3/1844 Sydney Morning Herald: MARRIED. On Tuesday, the 12th instant, by the Rev. J. Isaacs, according to the rites of the Mosaic law, Mrs. Julia Emanuel, widow of the late Barnet Emanuel, of Bathurst, to Mr. John Barnett, of the same place.
