After returning to Sydney from Norfolk Island in 1793, Thomas Jones received a 30 acre land grant in 1794 at the Eastern Farms (Kissing Point) later Ryde. The property was purchased by another First Fleeter Joseph Hatton by 1802. Joseph Hatton was my great-great-great grandfather.

THOMAS JONES, convict in the first fleet ship per “Alexander” arrived at NSW on 26th January 1788. He was aged 22 years. He was tried on 21 March 1785 in Warwick, for stealing a silver tankard. After being given the death sentence he was reprieved to transportation for seven years. Derby Mercury - Thursday 24 March 1785 p 4 “ On Wednesday night the Assizes ended for the county of Warwick when the following convicts received sentence of Death Viz, Chatburn, … Elis Green, … Samuel Packwood, … Samuel Smith, … John Slight alias John Browne, … John Shardlowe. “THOMAS JONES for stealing a silver tankard from the house of Francis Moore, in Birmingham..-- The first seven of whom are left for execution and the others reprieved.” Thomas Jones went to Norfolk Island with King and the small group to establish a settlement there. Some First Fleet information says he became a shopkeeper in Sydney. Evidence??
