Family connections for Thomas (Jones) are: JONES Thomas (Jones) was born about 1779 & became servant to a respactable gentleman. He & his supposed brother James (Jones/Adams) were tried for Highway robbery & stealing a watch etc of Henry (Hiscocks) at Salisbury Wiltshire Assizes in 1801, sentenced to death (James was executed at Fisherton on 24 3 1801) reprieved to Life, held on prison hulks & arrived in NSW on 14 8 1802 after a voyage of 7months on PERSEUS. He married Elizabeth (Dailey) on 8 3 1807 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Dailey) was born in 1793. Thomas (Jones) & Elizabeth (Dailey) became responsible for 4children: 1.Louisa (???/Jones) was born in September 1805, adopted & baptised on 26 8 1810 age4 w/William at St Matthews CofE Sydney. 2.William (Jones) was born on 29 11 1808 & baptised on 26 8 1810 age21m w/Louisa at St Matthews CofE Windsor. 3.Thomas (Jones) was born on 20 12 1810 & baptised on 12 5 1811 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. 4.Sarah (Jones) was born on 10 3 1811 & baptised on 8 9 1811 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. James Adams, alias Jones, and Thomas Jones, convicted of robbing Mr Hiscocks, on the highway, are said to be brothers. The latter was formerly servant to a most respectable gentleman on the Circuit, and is supposed to have obtained a reprieve from being known by most of the gentlemen on the bar in this situation. London Courier, 17 Mar 1801 The execution of James Adams, for Highway Robb ery, took place at Fisherton on 24 March 1801.




Assizes The business of the Assizes for the county of Wilts commenced at Salisbury on Monday last. ... The trials of the prisoners were then proceeded on and sixteen were capitally convicted, viz.- ...James Adams, alias Jones, and Thomas Jones, for stopping Mr Henry Hiscocks on the highway between Calne and Marlborough, and robbing him of his watch and pocket-book, containing sundry bank-notes, &c., ... Sentence of death was passed on them, also on James Rawlins, convicted of sheep stealing, at the last Summer Assizes, but whose judgement was then respited. Rawlins, Poore, Fisher, Bolton, Neale, Thomas Jones, Poticary, and Taylor, were, however, all reprieved before the judges left the city. London Courier, 17 Mar 1801
