The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE OLD BAILEY Tried; 19th February 1817 Age 46. Tried at Old Bailey, London. Accused of burglary (burglariously breaking and entering the dwelling-house of robert trend , about twelve in the night of the 14th of February, with intent to steal, and burglariously stealing therein, four table-spoons, value 1l. 12s.; eight tea-spoons, value 1l. 3s.; two salt-spoons, value 2s.; and one gold ring, value 2s., his property). Found guilty. Sentenced to death. Sentence respited; 26th April 1817. Age 46. Sentence outcome was transported.
