Convict Notes
Joseph Funge was 18 years old on arrival in VDL. He stole a fat sheep, most probably because he was left the breadwinner after his father, Richard was transported to Bermuda 6 years prior. Joseph was 5'10" tall, single, illiterate, protestant, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, very dark brown hair, anchor & cable heart & darts anchor - M.F.J.H. - left arm - 7 dots back same hand ring mid finger same. Joseph had been imprisoned before: 1 month for assault, and a fortnight for trespass. 1/3/1837: Received an early TOL for helping to put out a fire at the Government farm buildings at New Town. 8/2/1839: He had become a Constable/ drunk and outrageous conduct - 6 months hard labour and TOL suspended and recommended to be dismissed from the Police. 1842: Permission to marry Sarah Burk, Aurora. 15/1/1847: Married Mary Martin, Aurora. Jan. 1849: COF. No death or further records of Joseph found.
