Joseph Ross was transported on the Waterloo, departing 18th Dec 1830 and arriving 30th Apr 1831 with 200 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

ADM 101/73/21830-1831 Medical journal of the Waterloo convict ship for 29 October 1830 to 13 May 1831 by William Henry Trotman, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the ship has been employed in making a passage from Kingstown to Sydney New South Wales. Folio 20: Joseph Poss, aged 24, convict; sick or hurt, scorbutus; put on the list 15 February 1831, discharged 28 February 1831 cured. NSW Convict Index. Joseph Poss, for stealing sundry articles of wearing apparel the properly of James Thistle, July last. Jas. Thistle is a publican, lives opposite Butcher’s Gate, the things were .stolen out of a drawer; it was not locked; got them afterwards in the orderly-room of the Barracks. Prisoner belongs to 12th Depot—cannot swear to him. Sergeant Major of the prisoner he was in the regiment last July; on the 2d July last, at half-past nine o’clock he was in the Barrack yard; went to prisoner’s berth ; searched it, and found a black vest, the bedstead, a pair of trowsers under him in the bed, and a pair of stockings in his cap; took him to the orderly-room; searched the bed after was taken to the guard-room John Connell —Knows prisoner; let him the gate at half past nine o’clock on the evening of the July ; witness was serjeant of the guard; wore white jacket, trowsers, and cap; saw a bundle under his arm inside his jacket; did not stop him prisoner proceeded down the yard. - Guilty, to be transported seven years.
