Family connections for Joseph (Short) are: SHORT Joseph (Short) may have been born about 1766. He was tried for grand larceny, on 30 6 1788, stealing a watch etc at Old Bailey on 10 9 1788, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship SURPRISE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. He had a relationship with Elizabeth (Drury). He may have died on 25 10 1795 age29 as emancipist (although Smee has this person from NEPTUNE (same Fleet)) & been buried at Sydney old burial ground St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Drury) was born maybe in 1775. She was tried at Lincoln Quarter Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship NEPTUNE-same Fleet; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. She died perhaps on 6 10 1802 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Noted an Elizabeth (Drury) is recorded as dying on 8 5 1793 age18 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney=convict LADY JULIANA 1790-same Fleet as NEPTUNE] [Some details taken from this Website] Joseph (Short/Mort) & Elizabeth (Drury) produced 1child: 1.Johanna Henrietta (Short) was born on 29 9 1792 & baptised on 28 12 1792 on Norfolk Island & later adopted by merchant Simeon (Lord). She married at age14 Francis (Williams) marine on 17 11 1806 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. After arriving in Australia he became partner of father in law Simeon (Lord), travelling the world to originate trade deals in 1807. He was involved in hat making in 1811.
