Further details of the death of her son, from the surgeon's journal: "Folio 20: Thomas Joyce, aged 9 months, Prisoner's Child; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 18 June 1852, at sea. Died, 22 June 1852. When taken to the surgeon he had been suffering disorder of the bowels for some days and was much emaciated and had a pain in the abdomen."
