Convict Notes

Transported 1791 on Albermarle for 14 years, having been tried in 1790. Was granted 12 acres of land at Toongabbie (first local land grant). Built a house in 1794 which was used as an inn, but burned down in 1804. Was significant in the Convict Uprising of 1803 as he rode to Parramatta to warned Elizabeth Macarthur (his neighbour) that the convicts were coming. She was dining with Rev Samuel Marsden, who sent word to Sydney and consequently Trooper Anlezark and his regiment were dispatched and quelled the uprising the following morning at Vinegar Hill.
