Lord Ellenborough closed the business on the Criminal Side, at noon, yesterday, at Chelmsford. Judd, who had long been at the bend of a notorious gang of pickpockets, was convicted of being one of. the Ruffians, who bustled and picked the pocket of a person of a purse, containing one shilling, at a pugilistic meeting. As soon as the Jury returned their verdict, he began an abusive harangue against the witnesses who appeared against him, and, on being reprimanded for it, he uttered some audacious expressions to the Judge himself. He was sentenced to transportation for life. St James Chronicle, 25 July 1812.
