Maurice Jupp, labourer, 30, charged with breaking and entering the house of Francis Wells, at Warnham, and stealing therefrom pound of beef and two home-made cheeses. It was proved that the wire-work of the dairy-window had been forced by a hay-knife, which was found on the premises. The prisoner’s house at Kingsfold was searched, and the property found therein. said that he had purchased the articles of different persons; they were now produced and identified ; the persons referred to were also examined, and proved they had not sold the articles to the prisoner. consequence some doubt in the descriplion of the building and premises, the Jury were directed to confine themselves to the simple act of stealing. Verdict— Guilty of stealing.—Sentenced to be transported for seven years. Brighton Gazette, 30 March 1837.
