Convict Notes
Sussex Lent Assizes. Reuben Sageman, (30) and Philip Jupp, (28), were indicted for breaking and entering the dwelling house of Richard Holland, at Itchingfield and stealing therefrom, about eight stones of pork and other articles. Mr. Jones appeared for the prosecution appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. Attree for the prisoner Jupp. The pork was taken from the dairy adjoining the house and Mr. contended that the offence did not amount to burglary, inasmuch as the enclosure within which the dairy stood did not constitute a curtilage. The jury found the prisoners guilty of larceny, and they were sentenced each to Transportation for seven years. Sussex Advertiser, 27 March 1837.
