The following criminals, who were condemned at our last Assizes, have since had their sentence commuted transportation for life: —Alexander Loo Kaye, Francis Hicks, John Jones, Thomas Smith, John Tombs, Herrow Hawkins, Richard Sadler, Robert Harrison, John Overthrow, Samuel Brain, Thomas James, Thomas Rose, John Motley, George Griffin, John Watts, William Niblett, John Warner, William Morgan, and James Turner. The first named ten, were, on Tuesday last, removed from our County Gaol to the hulks at Woolwich, preparatory to their embarkation for New South Wales. Cheltenham Chronicle, 20 May 1819.

Bow-Street.—On Monday, Alexander Loo Kaye was brought to the Office by Bond, the constable, on charges of fraud. It appeared, that about months since, the prisoner hired a horse and chaise of Mr. Abraham Gill, livery-stable-keeper, in Red Lion-street, Holborn, with with which he absconded, and could not traced till Monday. He is also charged with frauds at Cheltenham, and other parts of the country. Bond, on searching him, found a number notes, purporting to be of the Thornbury New Bank Gloucestershire, amounting to about 501. which he said were given him by a man of the name of Clarke, whose name appeared as the signature to the notes, but are supposed to be forged. A Birmingham bill for 201. was also found upon him supposed be the same description. He was committed for further examination.
