Convict Notes

As John “Kane” this convict was sentenced at the Louth Summer Assizes in August 1791 over a “felony at large” and was to be to be transported "in accordance with the statute". This was apparently transportation for Life - the sentence recorded on the ship's indent. (Reported in Belfast Newsletter Tuesday, August 23, 1791; Page: 4) He arrived in NSW on convict ship “Boddingtons” in August 1793. He was recorded on the indent of Boddingtons as aged 25 years, and sentenced to life, and his name was recorded as “Keane” not Kane (Kane was however a common name in the county Louth).
