Moreton Bay Convict Records. John Keenan, per Borodino, tried Tipperary, 21 Aug 1827, Life. Felony in a dwelling house. Indoor servant. Colonial conviction: Bench, Cox’s River, 19 Jan 1830, for Robbery in a dwelling house. Sentence: Three years. Returned to Sydney, 18 Apr 1833. Description: John Keenan, native place, Dublin, age 19, 5 ft 6 ¼. Dark comp, black hair, hazle eyes. Catholic.




John Keenan, stealing money to a considerable sum, from his master, Rev. Nicholas Herbert, pleaded Guilty. Sentence of death recorded. Tipperary Free Press, 22 Aug 1827. John Keenan pleaded guilty to an indictment for robbing the Rev. Mr. Herbert; Limerick Chronicle, 25 Aug 1827.




John Keenan was transported for ‘Felony in a dwelling house (robbing his master). John was 19 years old, 5’6 ¼” tall, dark complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, RC. 19/1/1830: Cox’s River – Robbery in a dwelling house – 3 years – sent to Moreton Bay per ‘Lucy Ann’. 18/4/1833: Returned to Sydney. 16/4/1835: Servant from Dublin. Admitted to Newcastle gaol from Paterson. Remanded and sent to the police department for punishment 18 May. 21/4/1840: John Keenan admitted to Newcastle gaol from New England charged with burglary. Sent for trial. 1842: TOL Muswellbrook 23/4/1844: Admitted to Newcastle gaol from Peel River border police office charged with gross disorderly conduct and drunkenness and making away with property entrusted to his care. Ticket of leave recommended to be cancelled and returned to Hyde Park Barracks. 1/5/1844: TOL Cancelled for drunkenness and disorderly conduct, Tamworth, Peel’s River. 1845: TOL Queanbeyan 9/6/1849: CP
