Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian, Glamorgan, Monmouth, and Brecon Gazette Glamorgan, Wales 4 Mar 1848 THE MURDER IN WHITMORE LANE, CARDIFF John Griffiths, alias Swansea Jack, aged 20, boat- man, Alexander Thomas, alias Alec the Devil, aged 19, boatman, Maria, Meyrick, aged 23, singlewoman, and Bridget Kelly, aged 23, singlewoman, were charged with having, at Cardiff, on Saturday night, October 30th, feloniously, wilfully, and of their malice aforethought, killed and murdered one William Morrison. And James Jones, aged 18, boatman, Alfred Burrows, aged 22, boatman, and Mary Williams, aged 24 single woman, were charged having aided and abetted in the commission of the murder. No ship found for John Griffiths. Maria Meyrick arrived VDL per 'Anna Maria' 1852. Alexander Thomas arrived WA per 'Scindian' 1850. Bridget Kelly was listed as 31 years old on arrival. Place of Birth: Cardiff. Bridget was illiterate, single, protestant, 5'2½" tall, reddish brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on right eyebrow, scar right side of neck, J.B. on right arm. 15/1/1855: Married William Vesty (Equestrian 1844) at Longford, Tas. No death date found for Bridget, but William Vesty remarried as a widower, aged 42, in March 1868. William died ar Ringarooma, Tas., in 1900.
