ADM 101/28/21829-1830 Medical journal of the Forth, convict ship from 20 December 1829 to 4 May 1830 by William Clifford, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the ship was employed in a passage to New South Wales. Folio 5: Joseph Kelly, aged 30, convict, taken ill off Isle of St. Jago; case number 8; sick or hurt, ulcus scorbutus, his constitution appears to labour under scurvy. Has a phlegmonous swelling situated over the middle and anterior part of the tibia of right leg; put on sick list, 22 January 1830, discharged 30 January 1830 well.

COMBINATION. Joseph Kelly was indicted for having assaulted, with sword and other weapons, Thomas Ryan. The Prosecutor stated, that he was coming from work on the ? Dec last, between eight and nine o’clock in the evening, when he met his wife at the corner Great George’s-street, and on stooping his head speak to her, was cut at by number of persons, and bis arm  nearly severed from his body. The prisoner, whom he identified, was a principal person in the outrage; witness had bayonet  under his coat, he drew our, and endeavoured to parry them off with, whilst he was making off to his house in Tobin-street.  Kelly followed him the door; his wife was struck ; the reason he was attacked was, because he refused to enroll himself of the Union of Trades. Southern Reporter, 27 August, 1829. At the City Cork Assizes, Joseph Kelly, convicted of cutting Thomas Ryan, a skinner with a sword ; ... Limerick Chronicle, 29 Aug 1829. On Wednesday the City Sheriffs received respite from the Castle of Dublin, staying the execution of the   four following persons, convicted at the last Assizes for the charges respectively attached to their name.- ... Joseph Kelly, cutting with intent to kill; ...
