Kennedy Kelly, tried at Armagh, 29 March 1842, 7 years, age 33, height 5ft 7, catholic, can neither read nor write, single. Offence: Stealing a spade & shovel. Once for quarrelling- 6 months- similar offence, 6 months. Surgeon’s Report: Flogged for Indecent practices. Trade, Farm labourer can plough, Quarry & fell timber. Native place, C. Tyrone. Remarks: 3 S, Ellen, Jane, Betty. Drunkards, … , for their first offence, were each fined one pound, or in default sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. - Kennedy Kelly, for having, as he said, a " rheumatic pain in his knees," was similarly fined. He left the court fervently expressing a wish that he had a pound to pay.
