Margaret KELLY was convicted at Kilkenny, Ireland on 24 July 1850 for burglary and robbery. 10 year sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Blackfriar' arriving 29 May 1851. Aged 40yrs; country servant; married, 4 children; Roman Catholic. Husband - James Kelly, in a Workhouse. Father - Owen Mother - Nancy Sisters - Ellen & Betty Brother - Michael Children - Catherine, aged 23yrs - convicted and transported on this same ship Two children left in Kilkenny. Ann (Annie) aged 5yrs, accompanied mother on voyage. Admitted to St. Johns Orphanage, Hobart upon arrival but returned to her mother's care in 1854. Lived in new family unit - stepfather, William Atkinson. Native place - Kilkenny, Ireland. Assignments of service work in Colony, including Female Factory, Hobart. Clear conduct record. Ticket of Leave 27 June 1854 Application for Permission to marry to William Atkinson (transported per 'John Calvin'). Approved. Married to William Atkinson 21 May 1855. Conditional Pardon approved 26 Feb 1856
