Michael Kelly was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The convict indentures state that Michael Kelly was 24 years old. He could read; religion Roman Catholic; status married with no children and a native of Queen's County. He was a farm labourer and solider. Michael was convicted of stealing a watch on 11 January 1836 at Westmeath and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: height 5 feet 6 inches; complexion sallow; hair light and eyes grey. Transport number 74. Prisoner number 36-1878. There appears to be no further information on Michael Kelly. There are no further comments in the Indentures that he received a ticket of leave or certificate of freedom. A search of the 1837 NSW General muster and government gazettes does not provide any information.
