The boat was captured and towed to Motu Wai (Red Island) were it was totally destroyed.

Terrence Kelly, Boyd, convict, Convicted by His Ex. The Gov. Feb 14, 1816, sentence, 2 years. ------------------------------------------------- Secretary’s Office, Sydney, 19 Feb 1816. To Lieut. Jeffreys, R.N., Commdt. H.M. B. Kangaroo. I have received and laid before his Excellency the Governor, your letter of this date from Watson’s Bay, communicating your having twice attempted to proceed on your destin’d voyage to Newcastle and been obliged to return to the bay from whence your letter is dated, and notifying that two of the male prisoners, (namely Terrence Kelly and Benjn. Dean) who had been put on board the Kangaroo for Newcastle were missing at your muster this morning. The entire of the male prisoners having been put on board in Irons with the intention that they should be continued so until finally delivered to the order of the Commandant at Newcastle, it is to be feared that you have caused them to be taken our of irons which, considering the shortness of the voyage and the liability of their escape it is to be regretted should have been the case. It is now His Excellency the Governor’s desire that you keep all the male prisoners in Irons until you deliver them to the order of the Commandant at Newcastle. Signed, Jno. Thos. We hereby certify that Terence Kelly who came by the ship Boyd, Thompson Commander which arrived in the year 1809 has not been convicted of any crime of misdemeanour in this Colony, bu tis to our certain belief an honest, sober and industrious character, having served faithfully in the employment of the Government as Stock keeper under the Superintendence of Charles MCClean, for a period of four years, when he was assigned as Government servant to the late William Broughton, Esq. A.D.C. General with whom he remained until his decease, and since that period up to the present time has remained with Mrs Eliza Broughton, the widow and Executrix of the said William Broughton, under the Superintendence of Mr John Kennedy. Terence Kelly, a Settler, residing at Stone quarry Creek, stood indicted for receiving four Bulls, the property of Elizabeth Broughton, knowing the same to have been stolen by one Henry McDonald. --Not Guilty.
