Theresa Kelly was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Convict Notes




The Convict Indentures state that Teresa Kelly was 26 years old. She could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of Dublin City, Ireland. She was a house maid. Teresa was convicted of shop lifting on 27 July 1838 at Dublin City and sentenced to 7 years transportation. She had one prior conviction for which she served 6 months. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 2 inches; fair ruddy and freckled; hair brown and eyes brown. Transport number 135. Prisoner number 133-39.
