Old Bailey Proceedings Online (www.oldbaileyonline.org, version 8.0, 03 February 2020), October 1820, trial of WILLIAM KELLY (t18201028-95). WILLIAM KELLY, Theft > grand larceny, 28th October 1820. EIGHTH DAY. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2. 1322. WILLIAM KELLY was indicted for stealing, on the 7th of October, 17 yards of floor-cloth, value 6 l. , the goods of Thomas Downing, Charles Downing, and and George Downing. WILLIAM BORAMAN. I am servant to Messrs. Thomas, Charles, and George Downing , who are floor-cloth manufacturer s, at Knightsbridge. On the 7th of October I took this floor-cloth in a cart to Miller's Wharf, Lower East Smithfield. I went down the wharf to deliver another parcel, returned in about five minutes, and missed it. In about ten minutes I found Oborn with it about thirty yards off, and the prisoner in the watch-house. THOMAS OBORN . I am a headborough. About six o'clock in the evening, I met the prisoner dragging the floor-cloth along the ground. I stopped him and asked how he came by it? he said he must do something for his victuals. (Property produced and sworn to.) GUILTY . Aged 28. Transported for Seven Years . Second Middlesex Jury before Mr. Common Sergeant. Medical journal of the male convict ship Lady Ridley for 17 November 1820 to 26 July 1821 by James Wilson, surgeon and superintendent, on her passage to New South Wales. Folios 15-16: William Kelly, convict, aged 28; disease or hurt, sitting on one of the upper berths, [this man] having his face to the ship's side and his back into the body of the prison, and by the ship taking a heavy rolling he was thrown from where he sat in amidship, the upper and hinder part of his hand striking the iron stand by which the integuments were divided. Taken ill, 12 June 1821 at sea. Discharged 20 June 1821 cured.
