We have further to announce the arrival on Sunday morning, the 29th instant, of the ship Almorah, with 180 male prisoners, all in excellent health, consequent upon their good treatment upon the passage; she lost not a man. — This vessel sailed from the Downs the 28th of April, arrived at Rio de Janeiro the 15th of June, and sailed on the 23rd; Sydney Gazette, 30 Aug 1817. Almorah 2. Yesterday arrived from Ireland,- the ship Almorah; Captain Winter. She sailed from the Cove of Cork the 22d of August last, and brings 160 male prisoners, all in good health. Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Alexander, R. N. The guard consists of a party of 30 men belonging to the 1st Regiment of Foot (Royals), under orders of Ensign Bruce. Sydney Gazette, 23 Dec 1820. Almorah 3. On Friday last, arrrived from Ireland, with 108 female prisoners, the ship Almorah, Captain Boyd. She sailed from Cork the 6th of April; reached no where: and, independent of the female prisoners, brings 15 free women, and 50 children. One prisoner, and one child, died on the passage. Her husband's Moreton Bay Convict Record: Moreton Bay Records. Michl. Wright, per Elizabeth 3, Original conviction: Tried at Bedford Ass. 9 Mar 1820, Offence – passing forged notes, sentence – Life. Groom & labourer. Colonial Conviction: Bench at Maitland, 17 May 1832, offence- Having stolen pigs in possession well knowing &c. Sentence – 2 years. Returned to Sydney 18 May 1835. Description: Michl. Wright, native of Cambridge, age 35, 5 ft 3. fresh comp. Brown hair lt grey eyes, protestant.

THE undermentioned Female Prisoners have obtained Tickets of Leave, in Pursuance of the Regulations of 17th March, 1829, for good Conduct in the Situations respectively stated against their Names: WALLIS' PLAINS. Kennedy Bridget, Almorah (3), in married state.




Received approval to marry on 21 December 1824 from the Governor Thomas Brisbane. Married Mr Michael Wright who was transported on the Elizabeth (1820) in 1825 in Hoxham, Newcastle, NSW. Had two children - Ann (1825) and Vicars (1827). Received Certificate of Freedom on 5 July 1830 No. 30/484. Certificate stated that she was a native of Queen's County, Ireland, Birth year 1808; Height - 5 ft 4 inches; Fair complexion; Dark Brown Hair and Blue Eyes. On her husband's 1831 Ticket of Exemption the recommendation stated that he was remanded to her care. In 1832 her husband was convicted for being in possession of stolen pigs and knowing that they were stolen. Michael was sentenced to two years transportation in Morton Bay.
