Family connections for John (Kenny) are: KENNY ??? (Kenny) produced perhaps 2children: 1.John (Kenny) was born about 1770 in Carlow Co. Ireland & became a schoolteacher/master & baker. He was tried with his brother for robbery at Carlow Co., sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 8 1793 after a voyage of 6months on BODDINGTONS. He married Eleanor (Gallagher) on 19 3 1803. He had established a school with his brother at the Rocks by 1805. On 22 1 1807 he was tried for murder, on 10 1 1807, of Mary (Smith), sentenced to hanging on 24 1 1807 which was carried out, with the body suspended for the required time then moved to be hung in chains at Parramatta. [This event may be attributed to this person incorrectly; or perhaps a description of an unsuccesful hanging whereby the sentence has deemed to have been carried out even without resulting in death..Smees records do not indicate success/failure of hanging.] He is recorded on 30 7 1811 as school master & farmer with his brother at Wilberforce. He died on 11 2 1814 age44 as result of being bitten by 8' snake at Wilberforce. ..[Some details taken from this Website] ..Eleanor (Gallagher) arrived in Australia as a convict in 1801 on ANNE. ..Eleanor (Gallagher) does not have an entry on this Website as yet & the particular ship ANNE is not identified. .. 2.James (Kenny) was born about 1771 & became a school teacher. 12/2/1814 Sydney Gazette: On Friday se'nnight, about noon, John Kenny, a settler at Wilberforce, was unhappily bit by a black snake above the instep, and at midnight expired. - A day or two previously the unfortunate of this melancholy report had had two favorite dogs killed in the same manner, as from every symptom attending the death of the animals was undoubted. The reptile by whom the fatal wound was inflicted upon the deceased Kenny was seen, and supposed to be eight feet in length at least; and a day or two after, one of that length was killed on or very near the spot, which it was not doubted was the same. The 'Australian Royalty' website also lists this John Kenny as being executed for the murder of Mary Smith. Cannot pinpoint which John Kenny was the murder so far.

John Kenny of the Boddingtons was brother of my 4x great grandfather James kenny, also on the Boddingtons. Both were teachers in Ireland, and after serving their time, subsequently established a school in the Rocks - advertisement in The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, Sunday 6 October 1805. Later both brothers were farming in Wilberforce and again established a school which was later rebuilt by Governor Macquarie, and which still stands. John Kenny was bitten by a snake and died at Wilberforce in February 1814. The description of the trial for murder and execut ion of John Kenny is, I believe, incorrectly ascribed to my ancestor. There are at least six other convicts named John Kenny in various lists. No doubt one of these was the culprit.
