National Archives. HO-9-9_5 Woolwich Hulks, Justitia. Page 39/51. Received 4 March 1833. Thomas Kent, age 24, Cutting young trees, Tried Oxford Assizes, 26 Feby 1833, 7 years, Transportation per Lord Lyndock, 25 May 1833.
Oxfordshire Assizes. Thomas Kent charged with having maliciously cut ten apple trees, of the value of 30s., the property of William Molyneux, of Newington.-..To be transported for 7 years. Oxford Journal, 2 March 1833. --------------------------------------------- On Monday last, … Thomas Kent, … were removed to the Justitia hulk, pursuant to their sentences Oxford Journal, 16 March 1833. ADM 101/44/21833 Medical and surgical journal of the convict ship Lord Lyndoch from 15 May to 11 November 1833 by David Watson, surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed conveying male convicts to New South Wales. Folio 7: Thomas Kent, aged 24, convict, case number 18; disease or hurt, fever. Put on sick list, 4 August 1833 at Rio Janiero. Discharged 26 August 1833 cured. Folio 12: Surgeon's general remarks. The number of male convicts received on board the convict ship Lord Lyndoch in May 1833 were from the Justitia hulk at Woolwich, 100; Retribution hulk at Chatham, 50; Cumberland hulk at Chatham, 130 (total 280 men); and from Euryalus hulk, 50 (lads). ----------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas KENT married Anne MITCHELL (who arrived as a convict in 1837 aboard the 'Diamond') in 1840 at Jamberoo, Shoalhaven, after his Ticket of Leave was granted. The couple had five children, and never strayed very far from the district.
