Joseph Kenyon was transported on the Ocean, departing 31st Jul 1815 and arriving 30th Jan 1816 with 221 passengers.
The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Native of Manchester. Married Mary Ann Atkin, 21, daughter of a labourer, John Atkin, on 28 Apr 1803 at St John the Baptist Church, Wakefield, Yorkshire. 1803, as a linen draper, dealer and chapman , he was bankrupted. Later worked as a weaver. Convicted York Lent Assizes 1815 for feloniously stealing linen yarn from the bleaching grounds of Thomas Beckett in Barnsley. Sentenced to 14 years transportation to NSW. Held on 'Captivity' hulk, Portsmouth. Transported on 'Ocean' 1815. Assigned as tutor to Rev Samuel Marsden’s family Parramatta. Opened day school. CP 1821. Absolute pardon 1829. Land grant 100 acres St Luke adjoining Prospect Creek - became orchardist at his 'Woodlands' property. Died 1860.
