The guard consists of Captain Bull (with Mrs. Bull, 4 children, and 1 female servant), and 30 rank and file of the 99th Regt., - 4 women, and 6 children. Colonial Times (Hobart) 25 Oct 1842.

Kinnear Indent: https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON14-1-17$init=CON14-1-17P36 and https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON14-1-17$init=CON14-1-17P37 6752. Anthony Kiernan, tried at Longford, 15 years, 25 Feb 1842. Height, 5ft 4, age 36, catholic, can neither read nor write, married, 3 children. Offence: Attempting to burn a man’s house together with himself and family, pr Mr Leach. Smith on board for same offence. Surgeon’s report: Very good. Trade, F. labourer. Native place, Drummond, Longford. Remarks: W. Ann at N.P. William, N.P. B, Thomas, 2 S, Ann, Elizabeth, N.P. ---------------------------------------------------- LONGFORD ASSIZES. Owen Smith, aged 44, and his wife, Catherine Smith, 43, found guilty of setting fire to the house of John Washington Leech, on the 31 of October, 1841 each transported for life. Thos, 14, Mary Smith, 12, Peter Smith 16, (children of the above named Owen and Catherine), and Anthony McKiernan, 31, for same offence—To be each transported for seven years. Westmeath Guardian and Longford News-Letter, 10 Mar 1842. ------------------------------------------------------ So, it appears that Owen and Catherine Smith were attempting to burn the house they were living in, which was the property of Mr Leach. Anthony Kiernan helped them. The entire Smith family was transported, Father Owen and two sons Thomas and Peter, as prisoners, son Edward came free with them on Kinnear. The mother Catherine and daughter Mary, came as prisoners, together with two other daughters, Rose and Catherine came free with their mother, Catherine and sister, Mary on Waverley. --------------------------------------------------
