Bartholomew King, found guilty of the attack on the house of John Browne, at Coolmine, on the night of the 28th of November, and for unlawfully and riotously assembling with others, with fire-arms, on the same night ; … The learned judge (Moore) having assumed the black cap, the symbol of death, first addressing himself to King, recapitulated the principal facts of the case, King, recapitulated the principal facts of the case, as they appeared in evidence, after commenting at considerable length and with great on the nature and atrocity of his offence, and his subsequent aggravating acts in connexion with it; … Sentence of death. London Evening Standard, 15 Jan 1829. Mr. Bethel, in conjunction with the gentlemen of the Jury, has been enabled to obtain a respite for Bartholomew King, who was convicted at the late Commission of an attack upon a house at Coolmine.
