From the New South Wales Government Gazette 28th March 1851 - THE Tickets of Leave of the undermentioned Prisoners of the Crown, have been cancelled for the reasons stated opposite their respective names :- Christian King, Numa, absent from District; Sydney Bench.




Justiciary Court, Aberdeen. —On Wednesday Christian King was found guilty of, and sentenced to be hanged for the murder her own infant child on Saturday, August 3. It appeared that she had delivered herself in a water-closet, and afterwards thrown the child into the soil. Circumstances having given rise suspicions of what had befallen her, a medical gentleman named Keith was sent for, and discovered her real situation, which, after several times denying it, she ultimately confessed Dr. Keith afterwards look the infant out of the place of concealment; it was not then dead, but died the Monday following from the wounds it received in being forced down with a garden pole and other inhuman treatment. The execution of the prisoner take place at Aberdeen gaol the 7th October. Public Ledger, 19 Sep 1833. Edinburgh Paper. Monday, the Lord Provost received a respite, during His Majesty’s pleasure, in behalf of Christian King, at present under sentence of death in the Jail of this City, for child murder. Sentenced to death for child murder. Bannerman, foreman of the jury which had found her guilty but recommended her to mercy, set about having the sentence reduced. She was from the parish of Reay (Caithness/Sutherland) and had been working as a servant at Kirkiboll near Tongue. Bannerman even contacted Dr Grant surgeon at Tongue the father of the child.
