Convict Notes

After conviction at Preston on the 7th October 1790, Sarah was taken to Lancaster Castle by the keeper John Higgin to await transportation. Sarah was free by servitude in 1798. She attended all the musters in the colony though at times some of these appear confused; in 1806 she was living with Thomas Lewer (ship- Neptune) as a housekeeper. In 1817 she was noted as a housekeeper and 1818 as a shopkeeper. In 1819 she was recorded married but by 1820 recorded as a widow. In 1825, she is recorded as the wife of Thomas Lewer, landholder and farmer at Windsor. Sarah passed away, as Sarah Kirk, suggesting no formal marriages to Thomas (she was probably already married at conviction) at Pitt Town and was buried on the 10th January 1826 aged 70 in St Matthews Cemetery Windsor.
