Convict Notes

Death Recorded—Daniel Knee, aged 15, for feloniously stabbing Robert Thomas, with a knife, at Whaddon, on the 15th of September last ; Oxford University and City Herald, 15 April 1826. Daniel Knee, a boy only 15 years of age, was convicted at the Gloucester assizes of cutting and maiming Robert Thomas, a constable, who was taking him to gaol for stealing a handkerchief. The constable took him at his request, through the fields to prevent publicity, when he suddenly felt himself wounded in the groin, from which the blood flowed rapidly. He succeeded in disarming him of a knife, with which he had inflicted the wound, and after that struggle, conveyed him to gaol. He was strongly recommended to mercy by the Jury and the prosecutor, owing his extreme youth ; but Mr. Baron Garrow would hold out no hope. Birmingham Journal, 15 April 1826.
