ADM 101/65/7/11835 Medical journal of the Royal Sovereign, convict ship, for 4 July to 30 December 1835 by Francis Logan, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the ship was employed in the convict service. (Described at item level) Folios 1-2: case no.1, Samuel Knight, aged 34, prisoner, taken ill in English Channel; sick or hurt, this case not having been under my case for treatment nothing more can be given than the appearance after death, this man told me on board the York hulk that he was in perfect health, yesterday the 29th said that he was subject to violent fits of coughing which some time nearly produced suffocation, on 30th at 8 am. a message came to me saying that Knight the prisoner was taken ill with a fit of coughing, before I could get down into the prison he was dead; on the afternoon of the same day Dr. Barnes of the 17th Regiment and myself opened the chest when we saw the cause of his death, a very large aneurism sack or tumour of the superior arch of the aorta lay pressing upon the branchia just above the bifurcation below which there was a small quantity of purulent matter; put on sick list 30 July 1835, died 30 July 1835.

Text type Trial account Defendants SAMUEL KNIGHT Offences Theft > Simple larceny Session Date 4th September 1834 Reference Number t18340904-42 Verdicts Guilty Punishments Transportation 1158. SAMUEL KNIGHT was indicted for stealing, on the 8th of July , 1 plank, value 5s. , the goods of Robert Ramsden and others. ROBERT RAMSDEN. I am an engineer , and have partners - we live in Kingsland-road . On the 8th of July, about ten minutes before eight o'clock, I saw the prisoner take this plank off the premises, and carry it into Hare-walk - I pursued and took him - this is the plank. JOHN MOLE . I saw this plank in Hare-walk. THOMAS VANN . I am a police officer. I had been there nine mornings, in consequence of the prosecutor losing wood - I took the plank - the prisoner was brought back, and I took him. MARY BROOKS . I live in Hare-walk. I was at my window, and saw the prisoner running with this plank, which he put down and ran off - he was then taken. Prisoner's Defence. I am a carpenter : I had a little job; I had not the means to get the wood, and I took the plank. GUILTY . Aged 34. - Transported for Seven Years .
